Amelia O'Nan, a resident of Farmington, passed away on July 22, 2018, at the age of 91. Born and raised in New York City, she was a sophisticated secretary who fell in love with and married a handsome Texas sailor, James O'Nan, during World War II. After following him to a posting in San Diego, they later moved to El Paso Texas. While raising their four children, Amelia stood side by side with him as he was promoted repeatedly, living at these El Paso Natural Gas Company plants: El Paso No. 1, Wilcox, Gila, Guadalupe, Hueco, Chaco, Wingate, Aneth, and San Juan River.
She enjoyed their property at Vallecito Lake where they spent every summer, bowling, sewing, quilting, crocheting, grandkids, family, and friends. In recent years, she sewed bags/pillowcases for Child Haven.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, her parents, and a brother. Her brother Arthur Knack (Betsy) lives in Oklahoma. Amelia is survived by her children: Charles O'Nan (Johnie), Fran Chandler (Jim), Mary Miller (Ted), and Michael O'Nan (Wanda). Her grandchildren are Guy O'Nan (Theresa), Amy McClellan (Scott), Stacey Petersen (Michael), Marcey Lundy (Jon), Clint Miller (Stephanie), Misty Stacy (Nate Shanteau), Ryan O'Nan (Jessica), Tiffany Kimball (Bobby), and Chester O'Nan. Amelia also has 19 great- and great great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 27, at Pinon Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church, 5001 Foothill Drive in Farmington. Interment will take place at 11:30 am on the same day at Memory Gardens, and a luncheon will be served at the Pinon Hills Church immediately following interment.
