Annabelle Yazzie, 99, of Dzilth, New Mexico, passed away on September 10, 2024, in Albuquerque, NM. Born on January 27, 1925, Annabelle dedicated many years as a cook at the BIA school from 1971 until her retirement in 1991.
She attended Ignacio Boarding School, which laid the foundations of her lifelong resilience and strong character. Annabelle was a member of the Christian Worship Center.
Annabelle was a woman of many interests, including being an active walker, a skilled rug weaver, and an excellent baker. Her hobbies not only brought joy to her life but also allowed her to connect with others in her community, sharing her crafts and baked goods.
She is survived by a loving family: her brother Harvey Werito, sister Marie Black, son David Yazzie, ten grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Annabelle was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Louise Werito; siblings Ernestine Chavez, Jane Yazzie, Jimmy, Wilbert, Keith, Bobby, and Thomas Werito; and her children Randolf, Joseph, Andrew, and Theresa.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11 am at the Brethren In Christ Mission in Dzilth-na-o-dith-hle, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory and legacy. Annabelle's life was marked by her dedication to her family, her faith, and her community, leaving behind a lasting impact on all who knew her.
