Carole Thomas, age 79, of Farmington, NM passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022. She was born on January 17, 1943 in Trinidad, CO to Albert and Rose Vecellio. Carole grew up in Sopris, Colorado. Sopris was made of immigrants who worked in the coal mines dating back to at least the 1880’s. It is known as “The Town that Would Not Die”. Sopris was turned into a dam and the people moved to Trinidad, CO a few miles away. These people have remained in Trinidad or kept in contact their entire lives. Carol’s family remained there and the younger members came to Farmington, NM. Carol has lived in Farmington since 1972 where she was divorced and raised one daughter she worked at Smiths Pharmacy from 1990 until her death. She loved to work, take care of her nieces and nephews, volunteer with feral cats. She was a fantastic shopper and could always work sales, discounts and coupons better than most anyone. Carol is going to be missed. Her family relied on her for her stability and does feel like a piece of the puzzle is missing and will never be whole again.
Carol is preceded in death by parents, Albert and Rose Vecellio; brother, Richard Vecellio; many friends and customers from Smiths Pharmacy.
Carol is survived by daughter, Kim Thomas; brother, Albert Vecellio; many nieces, nephews, cousins; also her Smiths family and customers.
Carol signed a document in 1994 that she does not want a funeral and will be cremated. Her ashes will be taken back to the Trinidad, Colorado are. She will also get some type of memorial by way of making donations.
In Lieu of funeral Carol requests donations to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, SJRMC and Farmington Animal Shelter.
Carole’s care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Farmington, 404 W. Arrington St., Farmington, NM 87401.
