Dale Marlin Slusser passed away on November 29, 2018 at his home in Gallup, New Mexico. He was 86. He was born on December 24, 1931 in rural Cherokee County, Kansas to Oel and Ethel Slusser.
Dale graduated from Columbus Cherokee High School in 1949. After graduation he worked on the family farm and B.F. Goodrich in Miami, Oklahoma until 1951. In 1951 Dale enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He was called home due to his mother's health, with an honorable discharge on 1954. After his mother's death he went to work at Pittsburg Midway Coal Company which became Chevron. He moved to Gallup in 1976 as a dragline supervisor until his retirement in 1992. He married Nell Jean Kerley in 1967 in which he gained two stepsons whom he raised and loved as his own. Dale was an active member of the Gallup Christian Church where he became an Elder in 1985 and served until ill health in 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nell Jean Slusser. Son Kevin Kerley (Kristina) Four grandchildren; Isaac Kerley, Chis Ortiz, Sonya Benivedez, Misty Suzuki. Seven great-grandchildren. Five great-great grandchildren. One niece and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, One sister, One brother. One son; Dennis Kerley, and one grandson; Kevin KK Kerley.
A visitation will be held on December 4, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cope Memorial Chapel. On Wednesday December 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Gallup Christian Church with Pastor Bill Emmerling officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery with Military Honors by Veterans Helping Veterans.
Pallbearers include: Ivan Long, Daniel Long, Isaac Kerley, Christos Ortiz, Grant Wheatley, Johnny Jekielek, Bruce Belone and Jim MaCaw.
Cope Memorial Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
