Obituary for Diana Marez
In loving memory of our mother Diana Bernadette (Baca) Marez, who passed away on May 3, 2024 surrounded by loved ones in her home.
Diana was born January 3, 1947 in Gallup, New Mexico to Diego and Margaret Baca. She had five older brothers Archie, Frankie, Freddie, Sonny and Leroy. Throughout the next 12 years, she gained three more brothers Anthony, Richard and Larry. She grew up close with her grandmother and mother, helping take care of her dad and brothers. She always enjoyed softball, tether ball, jacks and spending time with her cousins from Espanola and Arizona. She also loved babysitting her nieces and nephews.
Diana met the love of her life, Sal Marez, when she was 18 years old and they got married on December 17, 1966. She had her first child, Christine in 1969 and Carolyn, Patrick and Caren followed. They lived primarily in San Rafael, with a short time spent in Texas and Albuquerque. Diana was close to her in-laws and helped care for them as well as her own family. She worked for the St. Teresa school cafeteria, Mt. Taylor Medical Supply and was a member of the Cursillo. She was a devout Catholic, modeling a religious lifestyle for her family. She baptized and confirmed several children whom she kept close to her heart.
Diana was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret and father, Diego Baca Sr. Her brothers; Archie, Freddie, Sonny, Frankie, Leroy, Anthony and Richard Baca, sisters-in-law Jean and Sangelita “Satch” Baca and great grandson Zachary Wilson.
Diana is survived by her loving husband, Salvador Marez. Her children; Christine (Rudy) Gallegos, Carolyn Urioste, Patrick (Karen) Marez, Caren (Chris) Gutierrez. Her grandchildren; Martin (Tracy) Gallegos, Maxine (Adam Sr) Jaramillo, Jaime Gallegos, Julie (Brandon) Wilson, Julian and Estevan Gallegos, Karla Urioste, Benjamin (Shania) Marez Montano, Matthew (Marina), Ryan and Monique Gutierrez. Her great-grandchildren; Robert, Kandi, Amorina, Luna, Evangeline, Armando, Adam Jr, Aubrey, Charlie, Kodee, Grayson, Alethea and Naomi. Her brother; Larry Baca and sisters-in-law Rhonda and Hazel Baca. Her bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
The funeral services for Diana Marez will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church on Monday, May 13 with a rosary beginning at 10:30am and mass at 11:00am. A reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Pallbearers will be Adam Jaramillo Sr, Brandon Wilson, Carlos Ramirez and Aaron, Daniel and Jesse Baca.
Honorary pallbearers are Pete and Lucy Gomez, Rhonda Baca, Albert and Mary Gutierrez, Petronilla Marez, Sara Jaramillo, Dina Jaramillo, Karlene Ochoa, Shirley Lujan, Elaine Rice, Phillip DeVargas, Brooke Dollar, and Stephanie Smith.
The family would like to thank everyone who has stopped by to show support and provided food and goods in their time of sorrow. Diana had requested in lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Teresa School or charity of your choice.
