Upper Fruitland

Evangeline “Vangie” Tsosie (nee Garcia) passed away peacefully on December 11, 2020 with her family by her side. She went to be with the Lord at the age of 62 years. Born on April 1, 1958 at Navajo Hospital in Otis, NM to Isabelle (Lope) Garcia and Willie Garcia. Vangie grew up in Nageezi with her siblings and cousins.

Vangie grew up with a very large family. She had nine siblings and numerous cousins. She often talked about the early days of riding horses and helping her family with picking produce in Alamosa, CO and Cedar Hill, NM. Vangie loved to sew and enjoyed working outdoors.

Vangie attended Bloomfield High School. Then, she went on to Southwest Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) in Albuquerque.  From there she found her career working at Navajo WIC Program in Farmington. She worked with WIC for 37 years and enjoyed serving the families in the surrounding areas. Retiring in 2018, her pride and joy was being with her five grandchildren. Vangie wished to return back to live in Nageezi and made many trips home to enjoy the scenery and be with her family.

Vangie is survived by her husband, Dan Tsosie, of 35 years and her mother, Isabelle Garcia. Loving remembered by daughters Dara (Kendall) Livingston of Naschitti, NM, Kari (Dwayne) Simpson of Farmington, NM, Stacey Tsosie of Upper Fruitland, NM and by her son Tristan Tsosie of Upper Fruitland, NM.  Grandchildren Kaleb, Kasey, Hayden and Lucy Jae Livingston and Rory Wade Simpson. Sisters Clara (Steve) Jose, Eleanor (Herman) Kenneth, Arabella Garcia, Darlene Garcia, Claudia Garcia and Zelda Garcia. Brothers Wilbert (Mary) Garcia, Calvert Garcia and Ambrose (Elvira) Garcia. She is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Willie Garcia.

Her family wishes to thank Four Corners Oncology- Dr. Jeffrey Neidhart and his staff, Dr. Kimberly Mohs of NNMC, and the Huntsman Cancer Institute of Salt Lake City. Special thank you to Penrose Hospital of Colorado Springs- doctors, nurses, and staff that provided loving care to Vangie in her last days.
