Another World War II soldier’s duty has been completed. Guy H. Mills, a longtime resident of Bluewater Village was called by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to come home. Guy was released of his duties, Friday March 1, 2019.
Guy was born in Weed, New Mexico on September 29, 1922, He was the son of Drayton and Verne Mills. Guy had one sister Rosa Springfield of Las Vegas, New Mexico, 5 brothers: J.A. Mills of Muleshoe, Texas, Warren Brown Mills of Prescott, Arizona, D.S. Mills of Bluewater Village, Lloyd Mills of Bluewater Village, and Floyd Mills of Texas. All of his siblings preceded Guy in death.
Guy served in the United States Army as a combat Engineer in the 3rd Armored Division. He was a demolition expert. He served 337 days on the front lines in Europe. He was a member of the Ghost Battalion, and participated in the invasion of Utah Beach. After the war, Guy was a carpenter by trade, building houses, schools, churches and Days Inn Motels all across Georgia to Key West Florida.
Guy and Betty, his wife of 40 years had 5 children: Judy Walker of Payson, Utah, Guy R. Mills of El Paso, Texas, the late Kenneth R. Mills, Nanette Merritt of Conyers, Georgia and Sandy Mills Haddox of Grants. Guy has 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday March 7, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Grants. Viewing will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by services officiated by Rev. Ray Jenkins and Sandy Mills Haddox. Burial will be at Grants Memorial Cemetery next to his beloved wife.
Pallbearers include; Jeremy Ewell, John McNeill, Wesley Wengert, Dennis Smith, Gary Mills, and Michael Mills.
Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #13 Honor Guard.
Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup is entrusted with arrangements.
