Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roman Martinez; her parents, Patricio and Maximiana Chacon; her sister, Emma
Chacon, and her brothers, Clovis and Charlie Chacon.
Mary Chacon was born on November 9, 1922, in Cebolla, New Mexico. As a young girl she spent most of her days with her grandfather,
Epimenio Chacon, whom she held close to her heart all of her life. When she got older, Mary worked at the United States Post Office as a
Post Master in the 1930’s. She also worked at the hospital for many years as a cook/dietician. When she left the hospital, she went on to
work as a cook at the jail. She loved to cook and care for others. First, she cared for her mother who had cancer, and later for her loving
husband Roman who had Alzheimer’s. She loved and cared deeply for everyone she met. If you walked into her home, you wouldn’t
leave hungry. She would always say, “Come, sit down. Are you hungry? Let me fix something for us to eat.” She would eat 8 times a day
before she let anyone leave hungry. She loved making pottery at the Senior Center and singing for St. Mary’s Choir. Above all, Mary
loved the Lord. She devoted her life to Him and was excited and ready to be inside the Kingdom of God. We are comforted to know that
her love, Roman, was waiting at St. Peter’s Gates to welcome her into Heaven.
She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Her infectious smile and laugh will live on in our memories forever.
