Mike Gaona

Mike Gaona passed away on November 20, 2020 in Gallup, New Mexico. He was 72. He was born on March 12, 1948 also in Gallup, New Mexico.

Mr. Gaona was bartender for many years with the Esquire Lounge in Gallup and the Tropics in Gamerco until his retirement to Tohlakai, New Mexico. He attended Gallup High School. He enjoyed baseball, especially watching his team the New York Mets. He also enjoyed cooking; he was famous for his red chili. He loved his family and enjoyed all the time they spent together. He was deeply loved and will be missed.

He is survived by his daughters; Tina Padilla (Benny), Caroline Soto (Victor), and Georgianna Carr (Dean). 5 grandchildren. 7 great-grandchildren. His brothers; Benny Gaona (Lucy), Frank Gaona, Danny Gaona (Cordie), and Eddie Gaona (Terry).

He was preceded in death by his parents; Francisco “Poncho” Gaona, and Maria Consuelo Gutierrez Gaona. His grandson; Isaac R. Padilla. His sister; Cecelia Gaona. His brothers; Emilio Reyna, and Julian Gaona.

On Thursday December 9, 2021 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, at 10:30 AM a Memorial Rosary will be recited, then at 11:00 AM a Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Matthew Keller officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Honorary Pallbearers include; Benny Padilla IV, RC Aragon, and Zachary Carr.
