Richard Begay Jr.

Richard Begay Jr., 57, a native to Toadlena, NM and Farmington, NM passed away on June 16, 2021, in Lovington, NM. He was born on September 11, 1963, in Shiprock, NM to Richard Natani Begay Sr and Minnie Begay. Richard’s clan is Water Flowing Together and Coyote Pass people.

Richard was raised in Toadlena, NM and until his passing he frequented the family home in Toadlena mountain often. From a young age, Richard helped his dad chop wood, herd sheep, and haul water. Richard being the oldest boy in the family, he was needed at home to provide maintenance and some upkeep of the family home. Richard attended and graduated from Shiprock High School in 1982. Richard joined Albuquerque Job Corp in 1985 and gained experience in carpentry. Richard did odd jobs here and there since his twenties and he really liked staying busy doing carpentry, welding and labor work. His interests and hobbies included biking, playing basketball, watching T.V., and traveling by foot or bike to Toadlena.

Richard is preceded in death by his father; Richard N. Begay Sr, brothers; Wesley N. Begay and Ernie N. Begay. He is survived by his mother; Minnie Begay, sisters; Barbara Hatch, Kimberly N. Bekise, Shawna D. Begay and Eva Gutierrez.

Visitation will be held for immediate family only from 1 pm – 1:30 pm in Kirtland, NM on June 21, 2021, at Kirtland Cope Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held from 1:30 pm – 2 pm in Kirtland, NM on June 21, 2021, at Kirtland Cope Memorial Chapel, and Rev. A. Brenda Morgan will be officiating.

Burial will be held from 3 pm – 4 pm on June 21, 2021, at Toadlena Community Cemetery. No reception!
