At the age of 7 Buddy lost his father, and at 15 years old he left to go work on a cattle ranch in California to help provide for his family back home. There he loved riding horses, working on cattle drives and learning about ranching.

In 1954 Buddy moved to Farmington NM where he started working in the oil field. In gas and oil he worked for Loffland Bros. Drilling Co. for 13 years in the U.S. 4-Corners and overseas. He had many interesting stories about working on Lake Maracaibo and the Buscan Jungle in Venezuela. From gas and oil to drilling for steam in geo-thermal, he loved and excelled at his work. In later years he worked as a consultant in both fields.

In 1957 he married Agatha Teresa Garcia in Farmington NM. They had 67 years of travel and adventures together. They went on to have 2 children Teresa Horn of Farmington NM and Charlie Romero of LCNM.

When Buddy retired he enjoyed time with his family especially his grandchildren on his farm, making the best jerky enjoying a good chew of tobacco and hunting, hunting and more hunting. He LOVED to hunt!!! We always joked "Do not schedule any major events or surgeries during hunting season." He always had a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye and a good joke to tell you.
