It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Russell Chapman, a proud veteran, devoted family man, and cherished friend. Russell left us peacefully on November 3, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering love.
Born October 8, 1932, Russell was a dedicated patriot who served his country with honor. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served during the Korean War, giving four years of committed service to his nation. After his time in the Navy, Russ played a significant role in the development of what we know today as the Navajo Dam—a testament to his hard work and passion for contributing to his community.
Russ worked with El Paso Natural Gas for over 30 years, dedicating himself to his profession with the same pride and dedication he brought to all aspects of his life. After retiring, he embraced his love for the outdoors. He spent his retirement years fishing, hunting, and camping, finding peace in nature and joy in his favorite pastimes.
More than anything, Russ loved his family and treasured every moment spent with them. Known for his kind and open-hearted nature, he had a remarkable ability to turn strangers into friends, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path. He was a kind soul, and those who knew him have only the fondest memories and warmest words for the man who brought so much light into their lives.
Russell will be deeply missed but forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and enduring memories. May he rest in peace, and may his spirit continue to inspire us all.
Russell leaves behind his son’s Daniel Chapman, Sr, his step-son Tommy, his daughter’s Judi Vandever, Shari Martinez and step-daughter’s Karen and Shawna. Brother, Marvin Chapman and 11 grandchildren, step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Barbara Chapman, son, Russell Chapman, Jr., daughter, Velma Chapman, Parents Allen Henry and Velma Chapman, Brothers, Raymond and Melvin Chapman, Grandparents, Frank Henry and Maggie Margaret Chapman.
A memorial service will be held at Cope Memorial in Aztec, NM beginning with military honors at 10:00 a.m.
