Sonny Marquez

Sonny Marquez passed away on June 5, 2019 in Grants New Mexico, He was 76 years of age. Mr. Marquez was born on November 22, 1942 in Seboyeta, New Mexico.

He graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School in Albuquerque. He also attended University of New Mexico. Mr. Marquez was dedicated to his passions and community, he served on numerous positions on numerous boards,  20 years on the Lava Water Conservation board, also as a district member of American Quarter Horse Association, Past President of the Good Samaritan nursing home board, the Rocky Past Mountain Santa Gertrudis Cattle Growers Association, the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association, the Knights of Columbus and the St. Teresa of Avila Catholic  Church board. His family will remember all of the precious family time that he enjoyed so much. He was loved and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his two daughters; Rhonda Candelaria and her husband Derek, and Sonya Marquez. Four grandchildren; Kyle Candelaria, Kevin Candelaria and his companion Martina Martinez, Ryan Marquez and his companion Quoia Dobbs, and Myrissa Marquez. One Great-grandson; Bryson Candelaria. His siblings; Bertha Lister and her husband Mike, Maryanne Gergeley and her husband Frank, Karl Chavez and his wife Viola. His Aunt; Ester Bostic and her husband JB.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Edna Marquez. His parents; Nabor and Isabel Marquez, Octovanio and Delia Chavez. His siblings; Melvin Marquez, and Shelina Gonzales.

On Tuesday June 11, 2019 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church a Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., then at 10:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Matthew Keller. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park.

Pallbearers include; Ryan Marquez, Kevin Candelaria, Kyle Candelaria, Karl Chavez, Nato Tena, and Larry Diaz.

Honorary Pallbearers include; Dr. Roland Sanchez, Jesse Gomez, Eugene Gonzales, Fred Padilla, Dennis Chavez, Jason Ortega, Marcus Salazar, Enrique Martinez, and all of his remaining family and friends.

Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup is entrusted with arrangements.
