On the morning of June 5, 2024, the angels escorted Thomas Raymond, Sr. home to Paradise. He was born on April 14, 1943 in rural Nageezi, New Mexico to Ned Raymond and Christine Chiquito. He was predeceased by his parents, son Thomas 'Skilly" Raymond, Jr.; brother Austin Raymond; Inlaws James and Lorene Yellowman; and brother-in-law
Raymond Barber, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Shirley Barber Raymond; Special Niece Penny King Ortiz; two sisters: Irene (Ernest) Arviso, and Pauline Liddle; and six brothers: Anderson (Violet); Irvin (Nita); Leonard; Larry (Edwina); Tracy; and Ned, Jr. (Brenda). And many nieces and nephews.
Thomas graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1962 and attended Adams State College in Alamosa, CO on a basketball scholarship. His employment throughout the years included: Business Associate for auto/trailer sales; Negotiator for mineral owners (oil and gas leases); Race Horse Trainer; Business owner (Hairport Beauty Salon and TR's Pawn & Trade) and self-employment as sole proprietor of various business ventures. His civic involvement included President of the Navajo Academy Booster Club; Director of Horse Racing-Navajo Nation Fair; 4H Project Leader; and was a team member of the outstanding Morgan Lakers basketball team back in the day. Thomas was a knowledgeable person and encouraged the youth in their educational pursuits. He certainly had a "green thumb" and had bountiful harvests but never sold one because he usually just gave them out.
