Wilma Lawrence, 59, of Nageezi, NM, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2021 in Bloomfield, NM. She was born in Otis, NM to Nelwood Werito and Bessie Yazzie. He was born to Ashiihi (Salt Clan) and born for Bit’ahnii (Within His Cover Clan).

Wilma attended Elementary and Middle School at Crownpoint Boarding School in Crownpoint, NM. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, NM and went on to San Juan College for a few years. Wilma worked in Counselor, N.M. running the Post Office, store and apartment complex. Later she was a deli/baker in Fort Duchesne, Utah. Wilma was a great homemaker raising three of her grandchildren, Layne, JJ and Abigail Lawrence. She served in the U.S. Army for 7 years and was Honorably Discharged. Wilma loved the outdoors, helping her mother herd sheep, gardening, camping, traveling and cooking for her family. She has been with her husband, Kevin Jay Yazhe for 14 years.

Wilma is preceded in death by his father, Nelwood Werito, brother, Calvin Werito, sisters, Vera Martin, Roberta Werito, maternal grandfather, Joe Yazzie, paternal grandfather, John Willeto. Wilma is survived by her husband, Kevin Jay Yazhe, sons, Darren Lawrence, James William Lawrence III, Shanan Ray Eaton, mother, Bessie (Yazzie) Werito, brothers, Wayne Werito, Ronnie (Tanaij) Werito, Vincent Werito, sister, Brenda Werito, grandchildren, Layne Lawrence, James William Lawrence IV, Abigail Renee Lawrence, Mia Lawrence, Urijah Lawrence.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Escrito Cemetery, Lybrook, NM with Officiant Odie Chapman.
