Lois Rebecca Hicks

August 6, 1926 — October 7, 2018

Lois Rebecca Hicks (Beckie) passed away on October 7, 2018.  She was 92 years old.  She was born on August 6, 1926 in Beaumont, Kansas.  It was in Kansas, while in High School, that she met and later married JD Hicks, a Navy veteran and petroleum engineer.  During WWII, Beckie worked at an aircraft manufacturing plant in Kansas City.   Beckie and JD had 2 sons, Jim and Mike, and two grandchildren, Mark and Casey.  Beckie and JD were married for 71 years at the time of his passing in 2014.  They lived in Farmington, NM for over 60 years and owned and operated the A&W on Main Street for several years.  Beckie is survived by her son Mike Hicks, granddaughter Casey Cancilla (Hicks), two great-granddaughters, and her beloved dog Nikki.

JD and Beckie had a very full life together.  They particularly loved traveling in their motorhome, snowmobiling, boating, and even dabbled in horse racing.  Beckie personally had an appreciation for Native American art, NBA basketball, and for many years created and sold her own art.  Beckie is remembered as a doting mother and grandmother.  She was certainly opinionated and strong willed, but she wanted the best for those she loved.  Her granddaughter’s fondest memories are from many days spent in Vallecito, CO with her grandparents, particularly of Beckie watching her grandchildren play in the snow from the cabin deck.  Beckie’s memory is cherished and she will be greatly missed.

No services are planned.
